Emmanuel College has its next leader. Director of Athletics Olivia Berry announced the hiring of John Carroll as the Saints’ new Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, bringing an experienced New England coach to Boston as Emmanuel prepares for the 16th season in program history. Carroll becomes just the third head coach in Emmanuel men’s lacrosse history and arrives after spending the past four seasons as the head coach at nearby Curry College.

Carroll brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience to Emmanuel, including multiple stops throughout the New England lacrosse landscape. During his four seasons leading Curry, Carroll helped develop seven NEILA East/West All-Stars and two Conference of New England All-Conference selections in 2025. His program also found success in the classroom. Curry earned the USILA Academic Team Award in 2024, recognizing the Colonels for their academic performance.

Carroll has also spent nearly a year serving as Vice President of the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA).

“John brings a rare combination of playing pedigree and coaching development to Emmanuel,” Berry said in the school’s announcement. “As a goaltender at UAlbany and someone who has learned under some of the top programs in New England lacrosse, John understands what it takes to compete and win at every level.”

Before taking over at Curry, Carroll built an extensive coaching resume across the region. He held assistant coaching positions at Holy Cross, Sacred Heart and Trinity between 2013 and 2019. During his time at Trinity, he also served as the program’s Recruiting Coordinator.

Carroll received his first collegiate head coaching opportunity in July 2019 when he was named the head coach at Nichols College, a position he held until 2022 before eventually taking over at Curry.

Those stops give Emmanuel a coach with experience across multiple levels of college lacrosse and, perhaps just as importantly, significant familiarity with recruiting throughout New England. Carroll now takes over an Emmanuel program with an established foundation and will look to continue building on the standard set by those before him.

“I’m excited to be named the next Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at Emmanuel College,” Carroll said. “I look forward to continuing to build upon the championship-level standard that has been established by those who came before me.”

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Carroll will serve as Emmanuel’s Recruiting Coordinator, an area in which he already has previous experience from his time at Trinity.

A Long Island native, Carroll played collegiately at the University at Albany, where he spent four seasons as a goaltender before graduating in 2012. He later earned his master’s degree in American Studies from Trinity in 2017.

For Emmanuel, the move brings in a coach who already knows the New England DeeThreeLax landscape, has previous head coaching experience and has spent more than a decade recruiting and developing players throughout the region. Now, Carroll gets his opportunity to put that experience to work with the Saints as the next chapter of Emmanuel men’s lacrosse begins.
