Oglethorpe University has found its next leader for the men’s lacrosse program, announcing the hiring of Will Munley as the Stormy Petrels’ new head coach. A respected figure in the Georgia lacrosse community, Munley arrives in Atlanta with more than a decade of coaching experience and a reputation for building successful programs from the ground up. Most recently, he served as director of lacrosse at Greater Atlanta Christian School while also leading Crown Lacrosse, one of the region’s premier travel programs.

“We are excited to announce that Will Munley has agreed to serve as our next head men’s lacrosse coach,” Director of Athletics Todd Brooks said. “Not only does Will have some significant playing and coaching experience, but he has also been successful in developing, improving and strengthening programs. He is well connected and recognized within the Georgia high school lacrosse community, which will prove extremely beneficial to growing our program.”

Munley’s hiring comes after a coaching career that has consistently centered around developing players and establishing programs for long-term success. Before joining Greater Atlanta Christian, Munley spent four seasons at Hebron Christian Academy, where he launched the school’s lacrosse program from scratch. Despite fielding a roster that featured nine freshmen in its inaugural season, Hebron made Georgia history by becoming the first first-year program to win a state playoff game and advance to the Sweet 16. The team finished 13-5, and Munley’s efforts earned him a nomination for Georgia Gwinnett Coach of the Year.

His impact extended beyond the high school sidelines. From 2020-23, Munley served as director of youth skill development for Team 91 Georgia, overseeing player development across multiple age groups while managing several elite club teams and coordinating instructional events throughout the region. Munley has also played a significant role in growing the game through his own organizations. He founded Elevate Lacrosse Academy in 2021 before launching Crown Lacrosse in 2023, where he oversees coaching staff, tournament planning, player development and day-to-day operations for one of Atlanta’s leading travel programs. Now, he’ll bring that same blueprint to Oglethorpe.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to accept the position of head men’s lacrosse coach at Oglethorpe University,” Munley said. “Thank you to Director of Athletics Todd Brooks and President Kathryn McClymond for believing in my vision for the program. This opportunity represents the culmination of years spent coaching, mentoring and building programs. I am grateful for every player, coach, mentor and experience that helped shape my journey to this moment.”

Munley emphasized his excitement about helping elevate the Stormy Petrels both on and off the field.

“I am excited to become the next head coach of Oglethorpe, be a part of the Oglethorpe community and to build a program here in Georgia that our student-athletes, alumni and supporters can be proud of,” he added. “I can’t wait to get started working with these young men and help lead the continued growth and success of the university.”

Brooks believes Munley’s vision and passion made him the ideal candidate to lead the program’s next chapter.

“Will’s enthusiasm and desire to see things done right were very apparent to the search committee,” Brooks said. “I am excited to see where he is able to take our program over the next couple of years.”

As a player, Munley earned All-American honors at Tennessee Wesleyan University, graduating in 2015 with a degree in criminal justice/law. He also attended Mercyhurst University Northeast, where he earned an associate degree in criminal justice/law before continuing his collegiate playing career. With deep recruiting ties throughout Georgia, extensive experience developing talent at every level, and a proven history of building successful programs, Munley now takes over an Oglethorpe program looking to establish itself as a contender in the years ahead.
