Salisbury was the hungry challenger preparing to become the next powerhouse in DeeThreelax. Played on Salisbury’s home turf, the game delivered every ounce of drama imaginable. 8. 2005 – Salisbury Sea Gulls men’s lacrosse 11, Middlebury 10

For lacrosse purists, this was perfection. Two coaching giants  Jim Berkman and Erin Quinn  went head-to-head in a chess match between the era’s premier programs. Every possession mattered, every defensive stop felt monumental, and neither side gave an inch. Salisbury eventually survived by a single goal, completing an undefeated 20-0 season and further fueling one of the greatest rivalries the sport has ever seen.

7. 1982 – Hobart Statesmen men’s lacrosse 9, Washington College 8 (OT)

Before the sport became fast-paced and high-scoring, there was pure war. The 1982 title game was physical, gritty, and relentless from start to finish. Hobart and Washington College battled through a defensive slugfest that perfectly captured the toughness of early DeeThreeLax. 6. 1996 – Nazareth Golden Flyers men’s lacrosse 11, Washington College 10 (OT)

5. 2003 – Salisbury Sea Gulls men’s lacrosse 14, Middlebury 13 (OT)

4. 2013 – Stevenson Mustangs men’s lacrosse 16, RIT 14

If you love offense, this game had everything. Played at Lincoln Financial Field, Stevenson and RIT turned the national championship into a track meet. Goals came in waves, momentum swung constantly, and the atmosphere was electric. Stevenson entered as the underdog but refused to back down, surviving a furious late RIT comeback attempt to secure the program’s first national championship. It remains one of the most entertaining title games the division has ever seen.

3. 1997 – Nazareth Golden Flyers men’s lacrosse 15, Washington College 14 (OT)

One year after their first overtime classic, these teams somehow topped it. Played at SECU Stadium (formerly Byrd Stadium), the game became an instant legend. Both teams traded goals in a frantic back-and-forth battle that refused to slow down. Then, just 30 seconds into overtime, Ryan McDermott delivered the championship-winning goal, sending Nazareth to its third national title and creating one of the sport’s most iconic moments.

This wasn’t just an upset  it was one of the greatest upsets in DeeThreeLax history. Salisbury entered undefeated and riding a 69-game winning streak, looking nearly untouchable. SUNY Cortland wasn’t supposed to win. But in front of a massive crowd in Philadelphia, the Red Dragons refused to fold. They matched Salisbury shot-for-shot before stunning the lacrosse world with an overtime winner that instantly became part of DeeThreeLax Legend. Even two decades later, people still talk about where they were when the streak finally ended.
