There are moments in a season that feel bigger than just one result. For Ithaca, Wednesday’s 9–8 comeback win over No. 8 RIT was exactly that a performance that not only delivered a signature victory, but also reshaped the outlook of the Liberty League race.

From the opening faceoff, this game carried the intensity expected between two conference contenders. RIT struck early, but Ithaca settled in quickly, matching the Tigers possession for possession and goal for goal. By halftime, the Bombers had worked their way into a 6–5 lead, showing they could generate offense against one of the more disciplined defenses in DeeThreeLax.

As has been the case so often, RIT responded in the third quarter. The Tigers found their rhythm offensively, putting together a three-goal frame that swung momentum back in their favor and gave them control heading into the final 15 minutes. At that point, it felt like a familiar script, RIT making the necessary adjustments and pulling away late.

Ithaca had other plans.

The Bombers delivered their best stretch of the game in the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals while holding RIT scoreless over the final period. The equalizer came early in the quarter, setting the stage for a tense final stretch before Cullen Adams broke through with the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes remaining. From there, Ithaca’s defense and goaltending took over, closing out the final possessions to secure the one-goal victory.

Offensively, Ithaca leaned on a balanced approach. Will Kleine led the way with three goals, while Tim Rogers added two, and contributions came from across the lineup. Rather than relying on a single matchup, the Bombers consistently forced RIT to defend multiple threats, creating just enough openings to capitalize throughout the game.

Defensively, the difference was most apparent late. Holding a team like RIT scoreless in the fourth quarter is no small task, and Ithaca executed at a high level when it mattered most. Andrew Minard came up with key saves, but just as importantly, the defensive unit limited clean looks and controlled the tempo in the closing minutes.

For RIT, the loss is unlikely to define their season, but it does highlight the fine margins at the top of DeeThreeLax. The Tigers received contributions from multiple scorers and showed their ability to respond during the game, but were unable to generate the late offense needed to close it out.

With the win, Ithaca moves to 4-1 in Liberty League play, positioning itself firmly among the conference’s top contenders. Currently sitting in 1st place in the conference and in control of their destiny for the remainder of the season.

More than anything, this game felt like a turning point. Ithaca has shown flashes throughout the season, but this performance provided something more concrete. They had a huge win over St. Lawrence early this season but this win over RIT feels like a real momentum builder for the Bombers right now.

A lot of challenging lacrosse still left on the schedule for Ithaca but right now they are in a good spot heading into April lacrosse.
