DTL to the PLL: DeeThree Players Making Their Mark in Pro Lacrosse
The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) is home to the best players in the world, and while the majority of those athletes come from powerhouse Division I programs, a small but elite group have taken the road less traveled: straight from DeeThreeLax to the pros.
This year, several names familiar to DeeThreeLax fans are rostered in the PLL. Some are returning veterans. Others are brand-new additions still making their way through training camp rosters. Either way, their presence proves what we’ve always known: DeeThree talent can run with anyone. Here’s a look at the 2025 DeeThree contingent in the PLL.
Cross Ferrara – Salisbury → Chaos LC
One of the most electric scorers in recent DeeThreeLax memory, Cross Ferrara finished his career at Salisbury with a jaw-dropping 353 points, ranking among the top all-time scorers in Sea Gull history. His combination of speed, shiftiness, and deadly shooting touch made him a nightmare matchup at the college level. Now, he brings that same energy to the Carolina Chaos, looking to earn a spot on a roster already loaded with firepower.
Ferrara is the only one on this list to play week 1 in the PLL to kick start the 2025 season. In his opening weekend Ferrara added 1 goal on 5 shots in the Chaos tough 10-8 loss to the New York Atlas.
John DeFazio – Salisbury → Whipsnakes LC
Ferrara isn’t the only Sea Gull in PLL camp this year. John DeFazio joins the PLL ranks after anchoring Salisbury’s defense and earning All-American honors. DeFazio’s speed in transition and takeaway ability make him a prime candidate for the PLL’s fast-paced style. Whether he cracks the gameday lineup or not, his invite alone speaks volumes about his potential.
Matthew Paolatto – Union College / Rutgers → Whipsnakes LC
Though he finished his college career at Rutgers, Matthew Paolatto built his foundation at Union College, where he dominated the faceoff X in DeeThree. A rare athlete with power, balance, and speed, Paolatto was a critical piece of Union’s 2022 NCAA Championship run. His journey through both DeeThree and DI showcases the depth of talent across all levels of college lacrosse.
He recently signed with the Whipsnakes, adding much-needed depth at the faceoff position.
Michael Grace – RIT / Syracuse → Atlas LC
Michael Grace spent the first four years of his college career at RIT, where he backstopped the Tigers to a national title and established himself as one of the toughest defenders in DeeThreeLax. He transferred to Syracuse for a graduate year, but his roots are in DeeThreeLax and that experience shaped the poised, battle-tested player now with the New York Atlas.
Matt Whitcher – York → Archers LC
A steady presence on the Archers LC since 2021, Matt Whitcher is a grinder’s grinder. The York alum carved out a role as a short-stick defensive midfielder in the PLL thanks to his relentless work ethic and smart, physical play. He’s proof that even DeeThreeLax role players can rise to the highest level through dedication and hustle.
Eli Gobrecht – Ithaca → Waterdogs LC
The OG DeeThreeLax PLL success story. Eli Gobrecht has been a defensive force in the league since its inception. Now a veteran with the Waterdogs, Gobrecht continues to shine with his tenacity, athleticism, and ability to guard the PLL’s top threats.
His journey has inspired an entire generation of DeeThreeLax players chasing pro dreams.

The Takeaway
The road to the PLL might not always run through DI blue bloods. As these players prove, DeeThree athletes bring unique toughness, high IQ, and a chip-on-the-shoulder drive that makes them dangerous at the next level. Whether it’s a rising guys like Ferrara or a proven vet like Gobrecht, DeeThree to the PLL is no longer the exception.
